The School of Social Work was established in 1966, and is currently part of the Faculty of Social Welfare and Health Sciences at Haifa University. The School’s main objective is to train graduates - the future leaders of the social work profession - to be actively involved in the struggle for social justice, and staunchly committed to social change. In addition, graduates will receive the professional knowledge and tools they need to work with individuals, families, and communities. The School is committed to developing and advancing future research professionals who excel in their fields - critical thinkers with a strong social conscience - and guiding them to conduct ground-breaking research that will make a significant contribution to society. The School of Social Work focuses on the fields of training and research, while establishing ongoing and strong connections with community health and welfare services, which are perceived as partners in the School’s study programs, practical training, and research.

The uniqueness of the School begins with its location in northern Israel. Social gaps, social justice, and services accessibility are all issues that are especially prevalent in the north, and thus receive special emphasis in both the School’s study program and research program. Northern Israel is characterized by its multi-cultural diversity. This is part of the School atmosphere, and relates to one of its most important objectives – to teach culturally-sensitive social work - as well as to develop research that will deepen the existing professional knowledge by facing and coping with the multi-cultural challenges posed by Israeli society.

We perceive the School of Social Work as part of the surrounding community, and believe in our role as leaders of social change. We strive towards creating a more just and egalitarian society, expressed in initiating and carrying out community projects that combine activity, learning, and research:
